As part of the ASDAN COPE module ‘Sports and Leisure’ Year 10 students were challenged to take part in at least two outdoor activities over the academic year.  The annual visit to the nearby Border Fisheries complex run by the Bay Malton Angling Club was held on Tuesday 21st April.

In preparation to the visit a lesson was dedicated to learning some theory behind angling, allowing the boys to get straight on with the practical on the day.

The day, funded by the Learning Support Department and organised by Mr Cooper, combined a multitude of skills for the boys. These ranged from team work, communication, and precise instruction providing the boys with the opportunity to try something new and to see the workings of a professional commercial fishery.

The boys learned about course angling techniques and tackle, as well as a variety of fish species, health and safety in the environment and safe fish handling.  The glorious day allowed the boys to have a very pleasant and action packed day with all wanting to take up the sport in the future. All caught plenty of roach and rudd as well as some larger carp, the heaviest of the day being around 6lbs.

Again we owe a massive thank you to staff at Border Fisheries for their absolute professionalism and support on the day and for making us so welcome.
